TVS Ntorq 125 Review and First look

Hey there guys! Here's one more scooter review on the block. And this time it's the TVS Ntorq 125.

The 125cc space in scooters has seen a steady growth this year thanks to new entrants like the Access,Grazia and now the Ntorq. Now,TVS had quite a good run with the Jupiter but it never really shined that much like the Honda siblings. But with its newest launch, things are changing quite a bit for TVS.Here's why!

Looks

Starting off with the most interesting aspect of the Ntorq. For starters, the looks are quite polarizing. Some will find it sexy while some will feel that it's too snazzy for a scooter.I personally like it but won't say its flattering. The front profile is quite happening with plenty of cuts and creases throughout. The headlamp though, has a conventional 'moto-scooter' like shape. No LED headlamps out here! But,you do get a cool DRL below the main unit in the headlamp cluster. The tyres are 12 inchers but you do get fatter profile than most other scooters in this segment. In profile,The side panels again, carry a lot of cuts and creases. The Ntorq insignia is in red and there's '125' written on the side panel.Moving to the back, the tailight looks really cool, especially at night. The tail-light carries LED elements and has a 'T' shape to it.Its also gets aircraft-inspired rear vents on either sides of the taillamp.Though the vents are fake, they do give a different look than most other scooters.Overall, the looks are good if not great. There are a lot of finishes playing around like that of gunmetal ,carbon-fibre and piano-black.The seat too has red-stitching and the pillion footpegs have aluminium finish. This is where things get a little messed up.There are so many elements that the overall look becomes a little confusing to the eye. That is why,I would prefer going for the Metallic blue or Grey shades only as these two shades blend better with the finishes on offer.

Features

The instrument cluster looks spetacular at night

The Ntorq is insanly feature-packed.Just look at the instrument panel on this scooter.I bet ,at this price you can't get anything better than this.It features eco and power modes, two tripmeters, a lap-timer,phone-battery status and bluetooth pairing. Then there's Caller ID,navigation assist and ride stats. There's a USB charger below the seat and a boot light too. These features make it the most feature-packed scooter in the Indian market today.

Performance ,Ride Quality and comfort

Now,coming to the vital point. How does the scooter feel to ride?Well, first impressions are quite positive. The first thing you'll notice is the bassy sound from the engine. The sounds feels sporty, but the engine is not the most refined I ve seen till now.The scooters puts out 9.4ps pf peak power and 10.5 Nm of peak torque which seems quite healthy on paper. But,I was not that impressed by the low-end performance of the scooter.Power is just about adequate and there's no kick-in-the-pants feel about it.You do have to twist the throttle to get going. But once you go past 40 kmph on the speedo, things start changing a bit.It feels a little lacking in the lower mid-range but upper mid-range and high-end performance feels punchy. The scooter also feels much confident at high speeds unlike the Access 125 and its other rivals. The ride quality is superb and riding with a pillion doesnt bog down the suspension. Also, the scooter is quite comfortable at good roads and handles potholes with little effort. The scooter has a claimed top speed of around 96 kmph and thats impressive. The seat is not the most spacious neither is the footboard but its not bad either.Overall quality too has impressed me a lot and though the scooter has an all-fibre body, the quality of plastics used is commendable. The switchgear too feels solid.Overally,I  would give this scooter a 8/10 on performance, and 9/10 on overall quality.

Verdict

Now here's the final call to this 125cc scooter. At around rupees 76,000 OTR pan-india,the TVS Ntorq does most things right. For an instance, you get what you pay for and then some more.Sure, this is no aprilia in terms of performance or vespa in terms of quality. But,that's not what its ment to be.This is a 125cc scooter which competes with the likes of  the Honda Grazia,Suzuki Burgman and even the Suzuki Access to some extent. And it does its job quite well.It has the most number of features on offer,a peppy engine, good build quality and fresh looks.
What more would somebody want from their scooters?Well,if you can compromise on features and want more practicality, then there's the Suzuki Access 125 you can go for.And if you want to have all the fun somebody can have on scooter, then it is definintely the Aprilia SR 150 you are lookig for, provided, you can shell out around 20-25k more than on the Ntorq. But,if you are that kinda person who wants to have fun along with sense, then it is the Ntorq you should go for!
